Sangama’s Gowri Ganesha celebration
A celebration of this scale begins long before the first lamp is lit. Careful planning, detailed checklists, regular meetings, and plenty of teamwork helped bring Sangama’s Gowri–Ganesha celebration together.
The preparations themselves became part of the festivities. Ganesha idol-making classes gave participants an opportunity to create their own Ganapa, while Bhajane practice sessions prepared the children for the big day.
As the festival drew closer, preparations gathered momentum—from meticulously planning the menu and choosing caterers for specific dishes to sourcing decorations, pooja supplies, and coordinating Sangama’s own food preparations. Every task, big or small, contributed to making the celebration run smoothly.
Gowri Pooje & Ganesha Pooje
The celebration traditionally began with Gowri Pooje, followed by Ganesha Pooje. Beautifully decorated idols of Goddess Gowri and Lord Ganesha took center stage in a temple-inspired setting. A dazzling centerpiece lamp, banana plants, hanging temple bells, Thorana, silverware, deepas, and flower garlands transformed the space into a truly divine setting.
Lord Ganesha looked perfectly content, adorned with the beautiful Kadabu Haara, lovingly prepared by the Sangama ladies!
Devotees gathered with their families to offer flowers and prayers and seek the blessings of Goddess Gowri and Lord Ganesha, filling the hall with devotion and festive spirit.
Little Voices with Big Devotion
One of the most heartwarming moments of the celebration was the Kids’ Bhajane. After practicing both virtually and in person, the children’s voices transformed the space into a beautiful devotional experience.
What a wonderful way to pass our traditions on to the next generation!
Voices from within our own community brought everyone together through familiar devotional melodies.
Saying Goodbye to Ganesha - Aarti & Visarjane
After welcoming Ganesha with so much enthusiasm, it was time to bid him farewell with the hope of welcoming him again next year. The community gathered once more for Aarti, offering prayers and gratitude before the Visarjane.
The hall echoed with everyone chanting in unison - “Sri Vidya Ganapati Ki Jai!” and “Ganapati Bappa Morya!”, as we bid Ganesha a heartfelt farewell.
A Festival Feast – With a Special Treat from India!
Of course, no Sangama festival would be complete without a memorable feast!
Devotees enjoyed an elaborate multi-course traditional meal with deliciously Kadabu and payasa. A particularly special treat was Obattu brought all the way from India, adding an authentic taste of home to the celebration.
Another highlight was the seamless execution, with every event starting and ending on time - a detail greatly appreciated by Sangama members.
Until Next Year – Cleanup & Storage
As the festivities came to an end, the committee came together once again to bring down the decorations, sort the pooja materials, carefully pack reusable items, organize the supplies, and place everything into storage for next year.
What began with checklists and boxes being opened ended with those same boxes being carefully packed away—carrying not just decorations and supplies, but wonderful memories of another successful Sangama celebration!
And there is little time to rest—the team is already gearing up for Sangama’s next big celebration – The Nada Habba and Deepawali! See you all there!
